Custom Cosmetic Bags for Gift Sets: How to Plan Product Fit and Presentation

In This Article

Plan custom cosmetic bags for gift sets around the complete contents before fixing the bag’s dimensions. Include retail cartons, caps, pump heads, brush sleeves and printed cards. Then decide how customers should see and remove the products. The bag’s opening, internal layout and branding need to work with that arrangement, and the final approval should use a filled sample.

For a Great Shine development brief, this product list is the starting point. A reference bag can suggest a shape, but its outside measurements alone cannot confirm that your proposed gift set will fit or present well.

Build the complete loading list

Record each item as it will actually enter the bag. A bottle’s stated liquid volume does not describe its external size, and an unboxed palette may fit where its retail carton does not.

For every item, provide the quantity, overall dimensions, orientation requirements and packaging that stays with it. Include removable parts that will remain attached during packing. Identify anything that must not be pressed, such as a pump, brush head or fragile decorative cap.

Supply physical items where possible. If they are not ready, provide current drawings or dimensionally representative substitutes and identify what remains unverified. Changes to a pump or carton after sample approval can require another fit check.

Separate the contents for each version of the promotion. If a holiday set adds a mask sachet or instruction booklet, make it a named variant instead of assuming the original bag has spare room.

Decide how the customer should see the set

Choose the loading arrangement before settling the bag structure. Upright bottles can make labels easier to read, but they need enough clear height and support. Laying them down changes the footprint and what the customer sees when opening the bag.

Use this table to decide what your sample needs to demonstrate:

Gift-set priorityLayout to discussDecision to make with the loaded sample

Present a palette or flat cartonFlat arrangement with the main face visibleCan the item pass through the opening and be removed without emptying the bag?
Keep brushes apart from bottlesSeparate pocket or individually sleeved brushesAre brush heads protected and sleeves easy to retrieve?
Use one bag for several promotionsCommon base layout with each variant checkedDoes the smallest set look intentional, and does the largest close comfortably?

An oversized bag may accommodate the contents but allow them to move or disappear below the opening. A tight arrangement may look neat while making packing and removal awkward. Decide which products must remain visible and which can sit behind them.

Choose the opening and internal layout

Great Shine’s cosmetic range includes zippered pouches, hanging organizers and brush-storage formats, with size, lining and zipper details subject to the project specification. Use those structures as starting points for development.

A conventional top zipper can suit a simple pouch, provided the largest item passes through the opening. A wider-opening design gives better access to a flat palette or several bottles, but needs a filled closure check around its corners.

Pockets separate items but consume usable space. A brush pocket should be reviewed with the brush and sleeve together. If you need a retaining loop, divider or other fixing feature, ask us to confirm its construction and feasibility before treating it as part of the agreed design. Do not assume a pictured compartment will hold every bottle shape.

Keep detailed measurement work in the size brief. Our makeup bag size guide explains the difference between external dimensions, usable space and the opening. Here, the decision is whether those measurements support the intended gift-set arrangement.

Check branding on the filled bag

Position the logo using the bag in the shape customers will see. A mark centered on a flat fabric panel may bend around a filled pouch or sit partly under a handle. Seams, zipper curves and piping also limit the available area.

Provide the artwork, proposed application method and placement drawing. Review the result with the contents inside and the bag both open and closed. Check that the logo remains visible in the intended shelf position and that an outer sleeve or gift box does not cover it unexpectedly.

If the pouch will be reused after the promotion, consider whether the label or campaign insert should be removable. Confirm that choice in the specification rather than leaving the packing team to decide.

Approve the complete sample through four actions

Use the final product assortment, including the packaging and card, for these checks. Treat any substitute item as a limitation of that approval.

AI-generated concept diagram of four sample checks. The arrangement is illustrative; it is not a measured fit test or a delivered customer gift set.
  1. Load: Insert each item through the opening using the proposed packing sequence. Check whether staff must bend cartons, remove caps or force a palette past a seam.
  2. Close: Close the zipper without squeezing the contents into place. Check for pressure on pumps, sharp carton corners and lining caught in the closure.
  3. Open: Set the bag in its presentation position and open it. Check what appears first, whether the card hides the main product and whether items fall out of their intended positions.
  4. Remove: Take out the main item and put it back. Check whether the customer can reach it without unloading everything else.

Photograph the approved arrangement and record the exact item list, sample version and remaining exceptions. If the arrangement changes, repeat the affected actions. These checks establish usability and presentation for that sample; shipping protection needs a separate assessment of the packed set.

Confirm the bag and the whole gift pack together

A dust bag, insert card or outer box can change both presentation and packing dimensions. Specify which components are included in the unit supplied by Great Shine and who will add the cosmetics.

One existing Great Shine quotation reference pairs a hanging toiletry bag, listed at 29.5 × 10 × 22 cm, with a 30 × 40 cm canvas dust bag and PP unit packaging. It shows why the bag and its packaging need separate specifications. The reference does not establish a cosmetics loading list, verified internal capacity or a completed beauty-brand gift project. Confirm dimension orientation and internal layout before using it as a development starting point.

For your set, review the filled bag inside its final retail packaging. Check the presentation face, protective materials, barcode position and packing sequence. Measure the packed retail unit and establish the carton arrangement from that configuration. The bare bag’s dimensions are not the transport-pack dimensions.

Send a project brief that can be sampled

To discuss custom cosmetic and makeup bag options, send:

  • The complete item list, quantities and packaging drawings or physical products.
  • Required orientation, separation and the product customers should see first.
  • Bag reference, material preference and any fixed retail-space limits.
  • Logo artwork, proposed position and application preference.
  • Dust bag, gift box, card, label and barcode requirements.
  • Order quantity, promotion variants, destination and required delivery date.
  • Who supplies the contents, who packs the set and who approves the final sample.

Mark unresolved details so they can be reviewed before quotation and sampling. Keep one approved packing arrangement for each variant. That gives the bag developer, brand team and packing team the same product to work toward.
